10th May 2018 | Parents Evening & School Fete

Dear parents

Just to let you know some dates for your diaries.

Parents' evening

I apologise for the delay in informing you of dates for our parents evening, it has been difficult to arrange it for an evening that suits all the staff, so in order to try and ensure everyone has an opportunity to have a parents evening appointment I am going to offer appointment on two dates:

  • Monday 25th June, and;

  • Tuesday 26th June

Appointments will start at 4pm and run until 6-45 pm. Each family will be allocated a 15-minute appointment.

You will need to book your appointment with your key person as they will know which evening is best for them and what times they have available.

If you cannot make the suggested evening, your key person will be happy to arrange an alternative day and time that is convenient for you.

For parents of children who are leaving pre-school to start school this will be when you are given your child’s learning journal to keep. Your child’s transition document will be ready for you to read and sign before we send it in to school (A transition document is basically a summary of your child’s learning and development so far).

For parents of children returning to us in September you will be able to view your child’s learning journal and discuss your child’s progress.

If you are unsure of who your child’s key person is please ask me (Elaine) and I will tell you. Any other concerns or questions I am happy to help.

School fete

Sunnyside Primary Academy School are having a summer fete on Saturday 23rd June 2pm – 4pm. Pre-school will be having a tombola stall at the fete (To help with our fund raising endeavours). We have already secured a few lovely prizes for our tombola stall, such as: tickets for The Hub; Northampton football town have sent tickets; Trilogy have sent tickets for swimming; and we have tickets for Gulliver’s land.

However we are still in need of prizes, so we need donations such as toys, toiletries, sweets and wine etc. All donations will be very much appreciated. You can start bringing in your donations as from now, but could I please have all donations in by Thursday 21st June to give us time to get them sorted. Thank you.

Look forward to seeing you all at the fete!

With Thanks

16th April 2018 | Welcome back after Easter

Dear parents

I hope you all had a good break and a lovely Easter. Just to let you know what topics/ themes we will be looking at over the next 6 weeks.

Within these topics we will be planning for individuals learning across the seven areas of the Early years curriculum.

As a parent/carer if you have any thoughts/ideas on future topics we could cover we are happy to hear your ideas.

Topics planned

Week beginning: 16th April - Growing (Plants and flowers and vegetables)

Week beginning: 23rd April - Life cycles

Week beginning: 30th April - Mini beasts

Week beginning: 8th May (4 day week, Monday is bank holiday) Communication week

Week beginning: 14th May - Occupations / people who help us

Week beginning: 21st May - stay and play week. (Wedding theme) Following the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle)

During the week beginning 23rdApril we are looking at life cycles and change, we are going to be thinking about how the children have already grown and changed, it would be really great if you could provide a photo of your child as a baby (Named photo please) so that we can show them and look at how they have grown and changed. It would be really lovely if we could also keep the photo to put in their learning journeys folders. The staff are also going to participate, getting the children to look at our baby photo’s and guess which pre-school lady it is.

During the week beginning 8th May (Communication week) we would appreciate it if you would support your child’s learning by helping your child put together a ‘Chatter box’ by this I mean a small box or container with a few items or photo’s in that are special to your child. The idea is that your child brings their box with them to playgroup, and at some point during the week in a small group they can talk about what is in their box with their peers. This activity will support your child’s understanding of conversation, speaking and listening skills, extend upon language development and build on confidence talking to others in a small group. The staff will be joining in with the activity to role model the concept of the activity to the children. Could all boxes/containers be named please All boxes will be returned once your child has talked about the objects/photo’s inside their box with their peers.

We are also going to be sharing lots of stories and rhymes to support language development. If you incur a difficulty putting a ‘Chatter box’ together the alternative is to ask your child to choose a favourite storybook from home to bring in and share with their peers (Again named please).

We look forward to seeing what is in the children’s chatter boxes, learning about what is special to them and why, and finding out about their favourite stories. Thank you for supporting your child’s learning with us.

Also some dates for your diary

We will be having an open evening on Wednesday 20thJune (Time to be confirmed)

Sunnyside Primary Academy School will be having a school fete on Saturday 23rd June (Time to be confirmed) we will be having a tombola stall at the fete.

We will also be having a parent’s evening in June (Date and time to be decided)

I will keep you posted with dates and times of the above events closer to the time.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and supporting your child/children with their learning

23rd March 2018 | World book day

Dear parents

Just a little note to inform you how much we raised on our fund raising world book day. We are delighted to say we raised £30. Which in one day of fund raising is a great total.

Thank you to everyone who made a donation, we all had great fun dressing up and pretending to be someone different for the day.

With much appreciation.

20th March 2018 | General update

Dear parents

Firstly I would like to apologies for the inconvenience of pre-school having to close when the water pipes have been frozen.

We would like to thank Dave and Kelly Reynolds for spending a whole day crawling underneath the mobile taking apart all our pipes de- frosting them, and re-lagging them. They spent 5 hours outside in the snow to try to help prevent the problem occurring again, but evidently on Monday we were forced to close again due to the same problem. We have now been advised that we could fit an electric heat trace on the pipes which will keep them warm and should prevent the problem of frozen water pipes in the future. So this is now another expense pre-school has, that was not anticipated, and therefore was not included in our annual budget.

On that note, we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has made a donation; we appreciate all donations as they help towards the repair costs to the mobile. We will be looking at having a couple of fundraising events throughout the rest of the year, so look out for those.

We would also like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to Dan Reed for creating our pre-school website! Dan has very kindly designed it and set it up covering the initial costs of having a website, for which we are extremely grateful.

For all parents of children returning to us in September, Karen would like all session request slips to be returned as soon as possible, we need to know how many sessions will be taken by existing children so that we know how many spaces we have left to offer to families on the waiting list.

Lastly I would like to remind you we close on Thursday 29th March at 3.30pm for the Easter break, and we re-open 8.45am on Monday 16th April.

We wish you all a happy Easter.

Elaine (Room Leader)

20th February 2018 | Welcome back after half term

Firstly I will start with our sad news, Sue is leaving us, and her last day will be on the 2nd march. We would like to wish Sue every success in her new job and wish Sue and her family all the best for the future.

(Please note: if your child was in Sue’s key worker group, you will be notified who your child’s new key worker is)

Pre-school fees

Pre-school fees will be going up after the Easter holiday.  The cost of a three-hour session will be £11-50.  However lunch club remains the same at £2-00 per lunch club.  (Making the cost of our full day care £25 per day)

Payment

Please remember when making a payment directly in to the pre-school account that you must provide a reference for it, without a reference we cannot possibly know who has paid the money in to our account. Therefore if you have paid in to the account without putting a reference it will not show on your invoice as paid.

Voluntary contributions

We are currently experiencing high repairs bills, we urgently need to replace one of the mobile panels, and replace the guttering that has warped from the rain.  We are also in need of a side canopy to join on to the canopy in the garden, as the rain tends to blow in from the side and we are then unable to use the undercover area when it is raining.  In addition we have been advised to install a small canopy above the main door in order to protect the surrounding area from more rain damage. The cost of these repairs amounts to approximately £8,000, which is a huge amount. Therefore we are looking at ways to fund raise to help recover theses costs.  If everyone donated £1.00 a week towards the cost of providing snack this would help enormously, all donations are extremely well received no matter how big or small. We thank you for any help you can give us with this matter.

Extended hours eligibility

Please can we remind you that if you are eligible and claiming for more than 15 hours free childcare, it is your responsibility to re-confirm your eligibility when required to do so. You will receive an email or message from HMRC (Childcare services) reminding you to re-confirm your eligibility, and it will give you a time span in which this must be done. Failure to do it on time or at all will result in you loosing your additional hours of childcare. (We are not responsible for doing this for you, re-confirming eligibility must be done by parents/carers).

Primary school places for September 2018

Just a reminder, offers of your child’s school place will be emailed to you on Monday 16th April 2018. Or you can view your offer online (Online applications only)

Offer of places will be posted out to you on Monday 16th April only if you applied using a paper application.

It will be presumed that you have accepted the allocated place unless you inform Northamptonshire county council otherwise. For more details on the please visit the Northamptonshire county council website.

This terms topics we aim to cover are:

Week one: Colours / rainbows

Week two: Literacy week, traditional stories, world book day

Week three: Our families / Mother's Day

Week four: Numbers / mathematical development

Week five: Spring / Easter

Week six: (Fun week) Stay and play week

Stay and play

We invite you to stay and play week, which will be the last week of term, week beginning Monday 26th March – Thursday 29th March.  You may come and stay to play on any session your child attends that week, you may stay for the whole session or part of the session, it’s totally up to you. You may bring younger siblings with you but they will remain your responsibility during the time you spend at stay and play.

Staying to play will give you the opportunity to see how your child spends their day whilst at playgroup, how they learn from their play, how they interact with their peers and staff.

However you know your child best and you may need to consider if it may be unsettling for them if you stay, some children really enjoy it and for others it does not work so well, we leave this decision completely up to you.

To establish an idea of numbers please could you let us know what day you intend to stay and play.

World book day

We will be having a world book day fancy dress fund raising day. This will be on Thursday March 1st.  We are asking a small donation of £1.00 for the children to come to pre-school in fancy dress. Some of the staff will be participating. If your child does not like dressing up that is fine they do not have to, if they wish to take part then they can come in any fancy dress they wish.

Also we will be starting a book swop on that day, we will provide a box in the entrance area where you may donate any of your child’s story books that they no longer want, you may also take any of the books that are in the box as a swop. We will continue to run this if it is popular.

Just to remind you this term we close at the end of the day on Thursday March 29th and re-open on Monday April 16th.
